A FM system is a wireless system designed to help someone better identify and understand speech in noisy situations and over distances of up to 15 meters (50 feet). Some FM systems work together with hearing aids while others are designed for those with normal hearing.
The person speaking wears or holds a transmitter microphone (or places this in the middle of a group). This transmitter picks up important speech sounds and uses harmless radio waves to send these to one or more FM receivers, which a child wears behind the ear (or connected to their hearing aids).
For the best possible learning experience students must be able to clearly hear the teacher in class. Unfortunately this is not always possible as factors such as background noise, the distance between the teacher and students and room acoustics can make understanding the teacher difficult, particularly if the student has a diagnosis of APD or a hearing loss. With an FM system, your child will hear the speaker’s words directly in their ear, without any distracting background noise, allowing them to enjoy and participate fully in every conversation. FM systems can be utilised in every environment, including the classroom, social functions and outdoors.
We are able to loan units to families for a short period of time. We will go through the functions of the system and how best to utilise it within the school setting. Information will be provided on the accurate use and management of the system during the fitting appointment for the loan. The cost of the loan is then deducted from the final price of the unit if a FM system is purchased. A non-refundable administration fee of $50 applies to all loaned FM units. Please contact us for more information.
We are able to provide a loan FM system for a duration at a cost. The cost of the loan is then deducted from the final price of the unit if the FM system is purchased. Please contact us for more information.
